MA Curatorial Practice presents “Mirroring Horizon,” a site-specific project by Jessica Angel. The artist will take over the architectural interior of the CP Projects Space, exploring the possibility of visual illusion and space transformation. Jessica will draw over the apexes of the room, enhancing its architectural qualities to then mirror the lines and planes onto the floor, paying tribute to the actual exhibition space, and honoring it as a hub for the acquisition and interaction of knowledge. She will use text-wallpaper and hand-cut adhesive vinyl. The artist is interested in juxtaposing the physical space of the building against the intellectual space where concepts take place; Making an analogy between the conventional three-dimensional world we live in, and the possibility of a fourth-dimensional space that holds our systems of thought together. 

Jessica Angel is a New York City-based Colombian artist. Her recent and upcoming projects aim to foster cross-disciplinary initiatives. Her last installation, Limitless Alignment, at Seton Hall University will be up until March 2015, and it reflects upon an interest in astrophysics. She will be part of a group of panelists that will discuss the ideas of infinity in the realms of art, mathematics, physics and philosophy. Her last solo project in 2014, at the AC Institute in NYC, also enabled forms of collaboration among sciences, philosophy, music, art, and new media. In 2013 she organized Pintura Abierta, a collaborative project that prompted the circulation of ideas about painting. In an attempt to consider this language through its practice, the laboratory gathered different proposals by Colombian painters by means of on-site paintings. The project took place in the Parqueadero space of the Museo del Banco de la República.

While living in New York City Jessica has been awarded the BRIC Media Arts Fellowship and the Cooper Union Summer Residency (2012), City Walls (2010) with the Brooklyn Arts Council and BOFFO-NY Artist in Residence (2009). She has exhibited solo at the Museum of Modern Art of Bucaramanga (2008), at the Salamanca University Cultural Center in Bogotá (2008), The Project Room of Los Andes University in Bogota, and at Casas Riegner Gallery (2006 and 2009). Her work has been showcased in group shows both locally and abroad in Bogota, New York, Miami, Washington, La Paz, and mexico city.

INTRODUCTION

The solar system can easily be paralleled with the “basic” unit of matter, the atom. Operations of a colossal city are analogous to the miniature calculations of a computer.  Phenomena of any system occur every instant, simultaneously, on small and large scales. I am interested in exploring these patterns and parallel realities, this duality between the vast and the minute. The deeper into the minute one goes, the closer one gets to understanding the large and vice versa.

I have chosen two specific analogies to embody the idea of the minute and the vast as equivalents 1) the relationship between the outer space and the digital information space and 2) the similarity between urban planning and computer integrated circuits.

To work around this dichotomy I will create an immersive installation that takes over the northern room of the AC Institute. I plan to "invert" these two ideas representing the "large" in a small scale and the "minute" in an outsized scale, emphasizing the concept of the strange loop and the cyclic patterns. The installation will make reference to the micro world of computers in correlation with outer space phenomena.

Jessica Angel, International visual artist based in New York, seeks career-minded students and art enthusiasts with a working knowledge in contemporary art, drawing and installation work to assist with the execution of an installation project in a Chelsea art gallery. Prior experience related to dye-cut vinyl installation and perspective drawing is preferred. Attention to detail, promptness and strong organizational skills, are required.

The installation of the project starts on Nov 20^th until Dec 12^th 2013 and applicants must be available 3 days a week.

The Archigram Archival Project

The Archigram Archival Project makes the work of the seminal architectural group Archigram available free online for public viewing and academic study. The project was run by EXP, an architectural research group at the University of Westminster. It was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and made possible by the members of Archigram and their heirs, who retain copyright of all images.

More Than 200 Projects are included in the Archigram Archival Project. The AAP uses the group’s mainly chronological numbering system and includes everything given an Archigram project number. This comprises projects done by members before they met, the Archigram magazines (grouped together at no. 100), the projects done by Archigram as a group between 1961 and 1974, and some later projects.

Slideshows, Talks, Exhibitions and Events form a big ongoing part of Archigram‘s work. This section features the ‘backup‘ of Archigram‘s shared slides, lists the venues of the ‘World Tour‘ of the Archigram Exhibition ‘Archigram: Experimental Architecture 1961-74‘, re-collects the group‘s exhibition and event projects, and will show a version of the ‘Archigram Opera‘ multi-media show.

The Six Members of Archigramare Peter Cook, David Greene, Mike Webb, Ron Herron, Warren Chalk and Dennis Crompton. Cook, Greene and Webb met in 1961, collaborated on the first Archigram magazine, later inviting Herron, Chalk and Crompton to join them, and the magazine name stuck to them as a group. Archigram projects are by named individuals and include other collaborators.

The Archigram Archival Project is run by a team from EXP, the Research Centre for Experimental Practice at the University of Westminster and was funded by a Resource Enhancement Grant from the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Collaborative help was kindly provided by the surviving members of Archigram or their heirs who retain copyright of all images.

VIDEOLINER The conjunction between Mural Painting and Video-Mapping Performance.

"VIDEOLINER" is the name of a collective created in 2012 by Jessica Angel and Laura Ramirez (a.k.a. Optika). Jessica is a NY based contemporary artist with experience in drawing, painting and large-scale mural works and Laura is a video artist, based in Bogota who focuses on live performances and video-mapping projection experiments. Through this collaborative initiative we aim to dynamically merge our skills to generate new AV censorial languages.

Art has been created using a great variety of techniques in order to fulfill different intentions. Let’s take the cave paintings as one of the many examples where mural painting served to the purpose of meaningful events and ceremonies. The medium and the purpose take their place in time. We are interested in exploring this relationship between time, medium, place and purpose, by creating site-specific projects that engage the media of our time with people who celebrate art and life.

Videoliner’s first project ENTER THE WALL was carried out in December 2012 in a 23' x 65' feet (7 x 20 mts) outdoors parking lot wall in Bogotá. Inspired in Archigram and retro versions of the future, this black and white mural done with acrylic paint and video-mapped with colorful animations, worked as a screen that divided the real space against an artificially created depth. Like Alice through the looking glass, the piece invited people to cross the wall and enter an imaginative world.
